Seven Spooky Cosplayers, MUAs and Cospainters to Follow

Seven Spooky Cosplayers, MUAs and Cospainters to Follow

The month of October brings about the spookiest and most creative content for ghoulishly good reasons. Most costume designs or character creations are showcased at cons but for cosplayers who are looking for any excuse to dress up, Halloween is one of the biggest reasons of them all.

How every cosplayer enters a Halloween party:

We cosplayers and costume artists are at it year-round, working on several character designs, building armor, and learning techniques, and now with most of us at home, some creators are working harder than ever to make sure that we keep the community engaged. Here are a few cosplayers, make-up artists, and cospainters who are absolutely killing it pun intended in the spooky scene.

Let me re-introduce myself! I go by Levi, she, he, they pronouns are all good. I was born and raised in Canada but my roots are in Guyana. I’m a hindu Indo-Caribbean Canadian, in short I say coolie, a word I reclaim with pride. My ancestors were brought to Guyana as indentured laborers. I don’t speak hindi, but I can sing in it. I’ve also played harmonium and played tabla for a number of years. I wear bangles on my right wrist and a slave band in my right (a gold band with my name on it) though I don’t wear it as often as it needs repairs. My bangles are worn regardless of my cosplay unless it was absolutely necessary I remove them. They were not removed for Sym. I’ve never been to Carabana, but I want to and I plan to make a carabana costume one year! I love tassa drums and chutney music too. I taught myself how to sew from watching my nanni, who sewed out of necessity, and I have a very long way to go. I’m a POC cosplayer and I try to bring in my influences to everything I make. I love my colour, my heritage, my confusing roots and those things will not and SHOULD not hold me or anyone else back from cosplaying and cosplaying safety. Not every community is welcoming, and not everyone is kind, but I promise I will do my best to be warm and welcoming. As I said in my last post, I’m your didi now. I’m here to support and uplift and hopefully even make noise to welcome more people in if the need arises. Call me out when I do wrong, and let me know if you need a hand. I want to do better for other POC cosplayers and myself. We’re stronger together ❤️🇬🇾 📸: @patrickabousleiman Design: Nisat #symmetra #overwatch #symmetracosplay #rangapravesamsymmetra #overwatchcosplay #blizzard #bharatanatyam #worbla #3dprinting #desi #westindian #guyanese #cosplayofcolor #queer #lgbt #coolie

Year-round, Lucia brings to life vivid creations through a mixture of body paint and make-up, but with collabs with other artists and creepy takes on popular characters added to her roster, she’s also been bringing spirited looks. For Mean Girls Day, she recreated Karen Smith’s Halloween with a very dark twist.

Another person to follow is Nitin. Self-taught, Nitin creates intrinsic horror art through makeup and body paint, but what makes his content one to follow is the special effects and illusions, whether it is out-of-this-world with an extraterrestrial look …

Make-Up Artist – Maryam (@m4makeup)

You wouldn’t know it from looking at her website portfolio alone but Maryam is a multi-genre make-up artist.

“From childhood, I have always been drawn to creative and artistic. Whether it was crayons on paper or baubles on silk, colors and textures have always played a big role in my life.  It is this same love of art and color that has inspired me to pursue my dreams.  Now, makeup is my medium and the face is my canvas. This is what I love the most–that I can take my skill and passion and use it to make people look and feel beautiful.”

Along with making her clients look and feel beautiful, Maryam has a special knack for creepy characters too.

This first one is inspired by The Haunting of Hill House the first chapter – prior to The Haunting of Bly Manor.

Cosplayer – Emilee “Shield” (@ourshieldmaiden)

Why is Emilee a cosplay to check out? Her character picks for cosplays are peak creativity! How does she do this? By picking some characters that don’t typically have the light shown on them or bringing a fun twist to a classic character like Snow White.

Emilee “Shield” takes the tale of Snow White and retells it with a dark twist. Inspired by a fan theory that the description of Snow White is similar to a vampire, Emilee inducts Snow as an honorary Cullen.

Make-Up Artist – Saloni Mathur (@salonimaathur)

Perhaps one of the most inspirational on this list, Saloni has created the #Salloween2020 contest to get others involved in the spirit of dressing up and to win a prize. For a grand prize of ₹50000 in goodies, artists participate in creating 31 days of spooky looks. Themes include zombies, candy, gore, monsters, horror movies, and even some Christmas ones like Elf.
